The Contemporary Geopolitical Context and its impact on the Just and Sustainable Transition

June 25th, 9.00-13.00, Council Room (Sala Consiglio), Polimi building 6 EN:lab (Via Lambruschini 6).

Geopolitical turmoil and crises, COVID-19 and energy instability, are reshaping the global landscape, exacerbating inequality and insecurity. The energy transition now demands to address climate change in collaboration with all international actors. Despite optimism from COP 26, geopolitical tensions threaten progress, widening the global divide between North and South and hampering long-term planning, which is crucial for the energy transition success. In this context energy diplomacy emerges as pivotal in securing energy objectives and upholding climate commitments amid challenges.

The multidisciplinary conference brings together leading international experts on the topics of international relations, diplomacy, and energy to answer to two pivotal questions

  1. What are the risks the current geopolitical instability poses for the ongoing energy transition in different regions of the world?
  1. Can the energy diplomacy effort transform risks into opportunities to respect the commitment for a Just Energy Transition?
