In science, which requires factual evidence, the consensus of the peer community is the ultimate arbiter of the value of research. But it is the collective decision of the social and political community to determine whether this evidence is sufficient to lend credibility to scientific hypotheses and explanations, as the health emergency we are currently experiencing shows with particular clarity. What relationship does science have with political decision-making and citizens behaviour? The workshop will include the participation of immunologist Maria Luisa Villa, author of the book ‘Science is Democracy. How the world of research works’, and Dr. Annalisa Malara (Codogno Hospital), who diagnosed the first Italian case of Covid-19.
